The Prosperity Gospel

Here is some prosperity gospel for you found in Hebrews 11:
1. They were stoned
2. They were sawn in asunder (sawn in two)
3. They were tempted
4. They were slain with the sword
5. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins
6. They were destitute, afflicted, and tormented.

That doesn’t sound like the perfect life Christians are promised today. In comparison to what these people went through for the faith we are all living the prosperous Christian life.

We should thank God that we have it so good and when unfortunate things happen we should continue to give God thanks (I Thess 5:18). We are not promised a perfect, quiet, and safe life. In fact we are promised persecution.

II Timothy 3:12 – “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.”

Sometimes we try to paint a prettier picture in order to convince someone to do something. This happens sometimes when we talk to people about the Christian life. We tell them about our God who is like a genie, that will give them whatever they ask for. We assure them that all their problems will go away if they will only accept Christ and live like a Christian.

This is false. We just read in the verse above that, if in fact you do live as a Christian should live then you are guarenteed persecution.

That is why it is said to “cost.” It costs you your life (all that your “life” entails).

In the end it doesn’t matter what this life costs us, because when we see Him it will be worth it all. We will be like Him, perfected, and will wish we would have given him more of our life!!!
