Col 3:5 – “Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; …covetousness, which is idolatry:”
The old man and his deeds that use to live within you are now dead. He died with Christ. You are a new creature with new deeds, like the works of Christ. Therefore, put to death all those worldly actions and wicked passions witnin you.
Paul mentions covetousness among other sins, but then he goes a little further with this sin and says it is synonymous with idolatry.
This goes right along with what Christ said in Luke 6:24, “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
Do you have a constant, overwhelming desire to have more of something, such as money, than is actually needed or do you find yourself constantly wanting what you do not have?
I like what one man said “Most of us don’t know precisely what we want, but we are certain we don’t have it.”
Let Christ be the ruler of your life, and the Bible says you are complete in Him. We have everything required – in Him.
Paul was content in whatever state he found himself in and the same can be said for you and I if we learn to find our contentment in Christ.
