“…for there is no difference: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. 27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded…” (Romans 3:22b-27a)
We are all in the same boat. We are all sinners. We have failed to meet God’s mark of perfection. If you are a true born-again Christian today it is because you were “freely” justified. That means you were made righteous without having done anything to deserve it. It reminds me of the quote “God asks us to do the one thing we can do without doing anything – believe.”
God is not letting us off the hook. He is not sweeping our sins under the rug. God is not corrupt. He is completely holy and He is “justified” and the “justifier” in the plan of salvation.
He tells us that the penalty for sin is death so He died in our place on the cross. Now because the penalty is paid He can offer us forgiveness without breaking the law.
He is justified in His actions for our salvation. He is the only qualified “justifier” of sinners because He is the only one who kept the whole law and paid the price of sin. That leaves us as the justified and having nothing to boast about because we got it “freely.”
All we can do is give thanks with our bodies as living sacrifices unto Him.
