Culture Shock and Stress

I have definately experienced some stress as a result of moving and living in a foreign culture.  Knowing about culture shock helps with the stress that one experiences as a missionary.

Consider the following:

For example, James Spradley and Mark Phillips (1972) estimate that learning to use a new language in everyday activities alone adds more than 50 points of stress to the new missionary’s life. It should not surprise us, then, that many first-term workers have scores that run over 400 points.
