Our Perfect Example

I am thankful and many times forgetful of the obvious fact that God has given us a model for how to live life.  He didn’t just give us a book but a person to follow after.

No matter what your circumstances may be Jesus is your example for how to live life.  In I Peter 2:21-25 we see some clearcut principles as to why Jesus is our perfect example.

  •  Because He is Sinless – 22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:[1]

Why follow or model your life after a fallen human being when you have the sinless Son of God to imitate?  In everyman we find sin.  In every man we find deceit.  But in Christ we only find perfection.  He will never lead you down the wrong path.  All His ways are in perfect agreement with your Creator.  All of His ways are for your best interest!

  •  Because He is Faithful – 23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: [2]

Jesus showed us how to live as committed servants to an Omnipotent God.  We are not to seek revenge.  We are not to get even.  We probably will suffer physical and verbal abuse in this life as we follow in His steps but our duty is clear – stay committed to Him that judgeth righteously.  There will be a day of reckoning.  Nothing is hidden from God.  Stay faithful to Him and let Him be the Righteous Judge for He says, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” (Romans 12:19)

  •  Because He is Selfless – 24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.[3]

Jesus Himself bore our sins.  He endured the punishment of our sins. He went through the wrath of God as a human being.  He gave us an example of living an entire life not for earthly gain but for the eternal.  His entire life was spent being spent for God the Father and others.  We have been healed from sin by the selfless life of Jesus.

  •  Because He is Proven – 25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.[4]

You see that you were dead in trespasses and sins against God.  You were an enemy of God.  You were led by the spirit of disobedience.  There was nothing pretty or likeable about you.  It was in this hideous state that God loved you and Christ came to seek and to save you.  Jesus is our perfect example because He is the proven Shepherd and Bishop of our souls.  He sought you, bought you and brought you into God’s family.  Not that He needed to but Jesus has proven to us that He loves us perfectly.

Why follow, why imitate, why serve someone/thing else when you have the perfect example in Jesus Christ?  Lift Him up to your family as the Perfect Example.
