Thank you to all who prayed for last night’s men’s meeting. We had, I think, 25 men present. The men of Wells Estate Baptist Church did a tremendous job of preparing for the meeting. The greatest part was that we saw one man make a profession of faith! Pray for follow-up meetings and for more of these men to come to Christ!
Please pray for our weekly men’s meeting at Wells Estate. We have sent out special invitations for next weeks meeting and will be having a cookout afterwards. We are going to be going through an intense study of the gospel during the meeting. Please pray for the teachers that they will be prepared and we will see many come to Christ. Thanks!!!
Over the past few months it has been overwelmimg how many funerals I have been involved in for people that I have known personally, all within the same family. Today, I preached the funeral of Gerald Nortje. It was just a couple months back I did the funeral of his girlfriend. Previous to those, my brother did the funeral of Gerald’s father, Pastor Ben Nortje. Please pray for this family as they are dealing with the shock of these deaths. Also pray for the Gospel to continue to work in the hearts of all that were in attendance today.
Many South Africans live in RDP or state subsidized housing. This article gives a good explanation of how this government housing plan works. It’s helpful for those ministering here to understand the housing situation of the people.
When You Really Know the Gospel
The great apostle Paul wrote to the church in Colossae telling them that he was thanking God in prayer unceasingly because of how the Gospel had impacted their lives.
Here are some of the ways in which the Gospel was transforming their lives and should be transforming ours today.
1. Your Object of Faith Will Be Evident – v. 4 – “Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus…”
Paul and his crew had heard of the great faith of the Colossian believers.
Since the day the heard the Gospel until the day that Paul penned this letter to them they were still growing by their faith in the Gospel. It was producing fruit (v.6). In other words it was changing their lives.
They were experiencing Galatians 5:23 – “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
When we keep our faith where it should be in – in Christ alone (The Gospel), our lives will be changed from the inside. Our hearts will be filled with love, joy, peace, and all the other fruits that we simply cannot consistently produce on our own.
2. Your Love Will be Experienced by Others – v. 4b – “…and of the love which ye have to all the saints,..”
How is the world to know that we are His disciples? John 13:35 – By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
When our faith is where it should be – in truly understanding the Gospel – we will be free and full of the love of God to give to others.
This love is very strange. It’s unique. It’s rare. Why? Becaue it is a love that gives without expecting to get back. It says I love you so I want to give to you.
The Colossian believers were giving out self-less, unconditional, performance-free love to all the saints (their brothers and sisters in Christ).
3. You Live Free Knowing your Hope Has Been Laid up For You – v. 5 – “For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven…”
In other words because of the fact that they knew, believed and understood the Gospel they were able to serve others freely. They were filled with love for others.
They didn’t need the applause or approval of others to motivate them. They were motivated by the fact that Christ finished the work of salvation on the cross. That all the goodness, and righteousness they would ever need was laid up for them in Heaven.
Understanding and living in this truth (The Gospel) changed their lives and it will yours also. It will remove all the idols you have in your life that give you purpose, security and significance (that can be swept away at any moment) – and puts the Rock, that will never leave you nor forsake you in their place – Jesus Christ!!!
Paul stated the hope of the believer clearly in Gal 5:5 – 5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
Let the Gospel change your life the way it changed these people’s lives. I don’t think we can say that we fully grasp or have perfect faith in the Gospel, but we can and should be able to say, with a clear conscience, that we are growing in our understanding and faith in the Gospel – For this is God’s tool for changing our lives!
